Can you get a home blood test without a prescription?

Quick answer
Yes, some blood panels can be done at home without a prescription (common check-up tests). However, a prescription is still recommended: it is required for insurance reimbursement and guides medical interpretation. In Rabat, our accredited partner laboratory handles sampling, analysis and results.
What is possible without a prescription
For a check-up panel or personal follow-up (blood sugar, cholesterol, blood count, vitamins…), it is often possible to request a home blood test without a prior prescription, as a voluntary step. The sample is taken by a state-certified nurse, following hygiene rules, then sent to a laboratory for analysis. This is handy for an elderly person, a patient with reduced mobility, a busy family, or simply to avoid the trip and the wait at the laboratory.
Why a prescription is still recommended
Even when not required, a medical prescription brings real benefits. First, it is essential for reimbursement by AMO/CNSS, a mutual fund or an insurer: without it, the test is at your own cost. Second, it ensures the right parameters are requested for your situation, and that results will be interpreted by a doctor in a clinical context. An isolated result, out of any follow-up, can worry you needlessly or, conversely, miss an important signal. So ask your doctor for a prescription as soon as possible.
The role of the accredited partner laboratory
The reliability of an analysis depends on the whole chain: sampling, transport, analysis. At SAMU Rabat, the sampling is entrusted to a certified nurse, then the sample is processed by an accredited partner laboratory meeting quality standards. We coordinate everything — booking, sampling conditions (fasting if needed), fast transport and secure delivery of results. You do not have to juggle several providers: a single coordination, from the appointment to the report.
Preparing your blood test well
A few useful habits. Check whether the test requires fasting (often 8 to 12 hours): we confirm this when booking. Prepare your prescription if you have one, your ID, and, where relevant, your insurance document. Flag your current treatments and allergies. Drink water if fasting allows, to ease the sampling. In Rabat, we visit Agdal, Hay Riad, Souissi, Hassan and Ocean, as well as Salé and Témara, at a time that suits you.
