The nurse performs the pouch change according to the type of stoma and the right rhythm, cleans the stoma and protects the peristomal skin, which is especially prone to irritation and leaks. They select the appliance best suited to the anatomy and watch for signs of complication: redness, irritation, bleeding, prolapse or retraction. If anything is off, they alert the partner doctor and, if needed, coordinate other home nursing care such as dressings.
