Night-Time Doctor House Calls in Rabat: How It Works

When a health problem strikes in the middle of the night in Rabat, options are limited: head to an often overcrowded hospital emergency room or wait until morning hoping things do not worsen. A night-time doctor house call offers a third option: a general practitioner comes to your home to assess the situation, make a diagnosis and prescribe appropriate treatment, without travel or waiting.

When to call a night doctor

A night visit is suited to situations that need a prompt medical opinion but are not life-threatening. Common examples include: high fever in a child or elderly person unresponsive to antipyretics, acute abdominal pain, an asthma attack not responding to usual treatment, fainting in a diabetic or hypertensive person, vomiting or diarrhoea with dehydration risk, or a fall without visible trauma but with persistent pain.

How does the visit work?

Contact SAMU Rabat by phone or WhatsApp. A coordinator gathers essential information (symptoms, patient age, medical history, current medications) and dispatches a general practitioner to your home. The doctor performs a full clinical examination, measures vital signs, establishes a diagnosis and writes a prescription if needed. If a serious condition is suspected, the doctor refers the patient to the emergency department of CHU Ibn Sina or Hôpital Militaire Mohammed V and, if necessary, arranges medicalised transport.

Response time

The doctor arrives at your home within 30 to 60 minutes of the call, across the Rabat-Salé-Témara area. This may vary with demand, but our commitment is never to exceed one hour.

What can the doctor do on site?

The doctor carries examination equipment (stethoscope, blood-pressure monitor, otoscope, glucometer). They can administer intramuscular or subcutaneous injections, set up a rehydration drip if necessary, and write prescriptions. If blood tests are needed, a nurse can draw the sample at home the following morning, with delivery to the accredited partner laboratory.

Difference from hospital emergency rooms

Public hospital emergency departments in Rabat (CHU Ibn Sina, Centre Hospitalier Souissi) are designed for life-threatening emergencies. Wait times are often long for non-critical cases. A night doctor at home is a well-suited alternative for semi-urgent situations: you avoid travel, waiting and exposure to hospital-acquired infections, while receiving a qualified medical opinion.

Coverage and reimbursement

A home doctor consultation may be partially reimbursed by AMO or CNSS upon presentation of the prescription and invoice. Check with your health insurance body for the terms covering home visits.
